We are delighted to announce that City of Cambridge RC are the winners of the 2025 Davison Award.
This discretionary award for the standout performance from a small club was created in 2018 in memory of Noel Davison, who was Honorary Secretary of the race from 2014-2018 when he sadly died of cancer.
Noel was passionate that the Fours Head should continue to attract crews from clubs of all sizes and from all over the country. He recognised that it can be hard for clubs with smaller squads to win but he nevertheless wanted their achievements on the water to be recognised.
City of Cambridge RC brought eight crews to the Fours Head, across Open and Women’s Categories and at Championship as well as Club level. Another of the club’s athletes raced in a composite. Their top placings were fifth in Open Club Coxed Fours, and seventh and 12th in Open Club Coxless Fours – particularly notable as this was the largest event in the Fours Head this year with 66 entries.
Richard Phelps, Chairman of the Fours Head, said, “City of Cambridge deserve to celebrate their performances at this year’s Fours Head. Noel’s family are looking forward to presenting representatives of the club with their Davison Blade at the prize giving in January*, which we hope they will be proud to hang in the club as a source of inspiration and encouragement.”
He added, “After two years of weather cancellations it was wonderful to have the Fours Head back, and we are incredibly grateful that over 100 clubs came to race, from all over the country as well as from abroad. Amongst these there were several other strong contenders for the Davison Award, including Worcester Rowing Club and the University of Birmingham Boat Club, and we congratulate them along with City of Cambridge.”
*The date of the prizegiving will be announced in the next two weeks.
