The Davison Award

The Committee of the Head of the River Fours is pleased to announce the introduction of a new discretionary award in memory of Noel Davison. Noel was, in addition to many other rowing related volunteer roles, the Honorary Secretary of the Head of the River Fours from 2014 to 2018. He tragically lost his battle with cancer this summer.

In honour of his significant contribution to this event and in recognition of his stalwart support of our sport the Committee has decided to create the Davison Award. After consultation with Noel’s family, and in line with his roots, interests and passions, the award will be given to “the standout* performance from a small** club” and it will be at the Chairman’s discretion.  The winning club will receive a decorated blade in line with the six Category winners and club representatives will be invited to the prizegiving party at Fullers Brewery in January 2019.

* This can be anything from a stand out performance from a single crew, to a number of strong performances in different categories.

** This does not follow any official definition nor any definition used by other events, but seeks to mark the performance of a club without the strength in depth to be regular or previous winners of events at the Fours Head within the past five years.
